Texas Christian University and the agencies and organizations of Tarrant County Council on Family Violence have partnered together to bring awareness to dating and domestic violence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We will be hosting a screening of the Verizon Foundation's Telling Amy's Story. Safe City Commission has graciously provided artwork from their Imagine No Violence campaign which will be on display. The artwork is done by local middle and high school students.

Texas Council on Family Violence President, Gloria Terry, will open the evening. There will be an expert panel discussion following the viewing of Telling Amy's Story. Mary Lee Hafley, SafeHaven CEO, will close the evening.

About Telling Amy's Story

Actor and advocate Mariska Hargitay and Detective Deirdri Fishel present an emotional story about America's pervasive and largely unreported epidemic-domestic violence. Telling Amy's Story is based on a timeline of events leading up to a domestic violence homicide that occurred on November 8, 2001 in Central Pennsylvania. The victim's parents, co-workers, law enforcement officers, and court personnel share their perspectives on what happened to Amy in the time leading up to her death. "While we will never be able to change the ending to Amy's story, we hope that its telling can change outcomes for the millions of victims survivors and loved ones affected by domestic violence everyday" said Mariska Hargitay, who hosts the documentary and is the president and founder of Joyful Heart Foundation.
